Dr. Brian Melius is our resident veterinarian who helps us understand our pets. We first met him through International Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Association/Professionals Association (ICCFA/PLPA). He received his Bachelor of Science degree in dairy science in 1979. He went on to receive his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from LSU in June of 1983.
Dr. Melius is the current President of Metairie Small Animal Hospital and is a member of the American Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology, the American Veterinary Medical Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association (SLVA) and American Animal Hospital Association.
Dr. Melius has also attended classes with the David J. Kelman Research Foundation and the “LSU Special Courses on Ophthalmic Diseases and Surgery.” He attended the Veterinary Postgraduate Institute in Ophthalmology. These courses have aided him in the development of his skills in the field of ophthalmology. Because of his intensive training in these programs, Dr. Brian Melius is able to perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery as well as many other ophthalmic procedures. His other fields of interest include dermatology and endocrine related diseases.
He is married to Jennifer Tuero Melius. Together they own Heaven’s Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie and provide at need cremations as well as pre need services. They also have an on site cremation garden and offer grief support. Dr. Melius and Jen’s dedication to pet health and after-life care is exceptional and we are fortunate to have their expertise as part of the Let Your Love Grow team.
