Tips for Using Let Your Love Grow

We want to make sure your experience using Let Your Love Grow is as successful as possible.  So we asked our plant and soil specialist, Sherry Yarkosky, to give us some tips and suggestions for using Let Your Love Grow to successfully create a remembrance planting.

Tip #1 – Follow the mixing directions

It may sound simple, but following the mixing directions is the first step towards successfully creating a living memorial using Let Your Love Grow.  Each package comes with directions that walk you through the entire process.  Make sure you stick to them to ensure the best result.

Tip #2 – Use the correct amount of ashes

It’s important that you use the right ratio of ashes to Let Your Love Grow to be certain the mixture will nourish your living memorial.  The amount of ashes varies based on the size of kit selected.

For more details on this ratio, check out How do I know the right amount of ashes to use?

Tip #3 – Take special care when potting plants

There are two keys to successfully creating a living memorial in a container.

First, never use anything smaller than a 10-inch container.  This allows plenty of room for the Let Your Love Grow organic mixture, the ashes and the potting soil.

Second, good drainage is imperative.  If you already have chosen a container and it doesn’t have holes, simply drill 3-4 holes in the bottom.  But be careful not to crack the container.

Tip #4 – Choose the right plants for you and your environment

If you’re a beginner, we recommend starting with a plant that’s low maintenance and easy to care for.

The environment where you are planting is very important as well.  A sunny spot requires a plant that’s well suited for a bright location.  A shady location requires a plant that tolerates low light.

If you have questions concerning a particular plant, you can read the instructions that come with most plants, consult your nursery or look to the internet for additional information.  We’ve also put together a page all about memorial plants if you’d like to read more.

Easy Care Plants

The following plants are relatively easy to care for:

  • Philodendrons
  • Hibiscus
  • Crotons
  • Ficus
  • Peace Lily

Choose the type of plant that you’d like to grow, and then follow the care instructions to ensure it’ll grow well.

Be Careful with Roses

Roses are a very popular choice for creating a remembrance planting.  They will do well with the Let Your Love Grow mixture.  But roses can be tough.  Roses have been genetically altered over time to produce a wide variety of colors and blooms making them more susceptible to disease and difficult to grow.

Do your homework before picking a plant to use in your living memorial.  Following the correct care tips for even the most difficult of plants will ensure it not only survives, but thrives.
